towing

I have 2 cars and a conichi caravan 2 birth mid 80s the caravan is long as about from hitch to tail 15 to 18 foot.

the cars are both diesals astra 1700 and second purgeot306 1900 to me second seems to small can anyone tell me am I firstly brackinglaw by using thease cars or give advice on the car which would be best for towing.

Whether you are breaking the law or not has relatively little to do with overall dimensions (at least in your particular case you'd be well within legal limits). What's more important is whether the cars are allowed to tow the weight of the van. You should find the maximum permissible figures in the vehicle handbooks. Compare that to axle weight of your fully laden caravan and that will tell you whether you're OK to tow or not. If you don't know the axle load and can't find any indication in the handbook or elsewhere, it's best to go to a public weighbridge and have it checked there. Don't forget to check whether the noseweight is within the respective limits, too.
