towing

hi can any one help i have a toyota rav 4 1998cc petrol i have vought a swift challenger 520/5 would my car be ok for towing this caravan its 22ft long

Hi Deborah ,if you look under the bonnet of the rav 4 there should be a data plate which gives the vehicle colour, kerb weight e.t.c you need to read the kerb weight and this should be 15% more than the caravan weighs to be a safe tow.e.g if the plate says 1000kg then the car can tow safely a van of 850 kg

hope this helps ant

What Ant has written is only a part of the story and it is only a recommendation. More important because of its legal implications is that the maximum permissible towload and the maximum permissible gross train weight, both specified by the car manufacturer, are not exceeded.

Deborah

The weight of your 'van is usually on a plate on the side of the 'van near to its door. The Kerbweight and Max loaded weights will be there.
