Towing

I currently own a Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 90 LX with a max tow of 1500kg Kerb 1330Kg & Nose 80Kg.

I have just recently bought a 1998 Bailey Pageant Moselle. The spec for the van is MROunladen 976Kg, MTPLM/MAW 1253Kg User payload 248Kg.

My questions are, is my car suitable to pull this van?,

Is the maximum weight I can load the van is 1253Kg?

I used to tow a 1300kg 'van with a 90bhp 406 1.9TD and while it was bit sluggish up hills, it was a good car. You are right, the maximum you can load the caravan to is the MTPLM quoted. I used to occasionally use the 406 for towing another car on a trailer right up to the max. tow limit of 1500kg and it pulled with no problems. However, when towing a trailer with a high centre of gravity (caravan, horse box etc) it is sensible to keep the MTPLM below the kerbweight of the towcar. Also, load the caravan carefully as a light badly loaded caravan can be less stable than a heavy sensibly loaded caravan.
