Hi.
I bought my wife an ipad about 5 years ago and as its her birthday soon,I thought I would treat her to a new one.
I would like to present it to her with most of her apps, games etc already installed from her old one.
From what ive googled,I understand that I can transfer using her apple id and icloud.
The icloud side of it will be a problem as it was set up with a blueyonder (virgin media) email address.
About 2 years ago,Virgin Media shut the email address down due to a security issue.
5 phone calls and at least 15 emails later to them have produced the same answer....."We are sorry, but cannot get your email address back"
Thanks a lot Virgin Media 😡
Needless to say....we are no longer with them.
So would I be able to transfer most info using the apple id only?
Many thanks
Ade

Yes. Does not matter about your Virgin email address. Presumably you have an Apple ID that works. Make sure your settings are set to back up to the cloud. Pictures and videos may be a problem depending on how many you have and if you only have the free cloud space.

Click on settings, then your Apple ID.

Should see this sort of screen.

When you get the new IPad and sign in to the same ID, the new one will update.

You can see your storage at the top of the same screen.

Just keep the old IPad for safety.

If you have Amazon Prime you can store unlimited photos in the Cloud for free. Google have free photo storage too which might help in the transfer., but there is a limit.

This is true. Problem with Prime is it limits video. That’s problematic as Apple will not separate videos from photos when it comes to backing up. Also, Prime will not backup ‘live’ pictures.

I think Google is similar.

You don’t say whether your Apple ID is using the Blue Yonder email address. If the Apple ID Username is your Blue Yonder can you not go into Settings your for account then change your email to your new one. Presumably you have another email account since Blue Yonder closed down. The link below may help. Once you’ve set up the old IPad to work with the new Apple ID there’s lots of web sites that show you the step by step actions.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2...tent using multiple Apple IDs, ... More items

Thank you for your helpful replies.
I never use the wifes ipad but I'm pretty sure that she has had to enter her apple id details in the past with new email address.
She doesn't know I'm buying her a new one so will have to wait until she's out of the house to do some exploring on it.
Thanks once again....will let you know how I get on.👍

I hope that you have had some success. I’ve now got a similar problem as my 7 year old IMac went down before Xmas and deemed not repairable unless I were to use a independent specialist and used parts. Fortunately all my important stuff is on ICloud and backed up on Time Machine too. So I’ve been looking around and have decided to go for a Mac Mini plus monitor as I get more capability at less cost than for a IMac system. Our daughter can get her NHS or student discount which helps. The most difficult but is specifying a monitor. Two that I decided upon aren’t available in UK and both a German company and Irish one have come back and said they don’t plan to supply to U.K. because the changes brought in from 1 Jan to our VAT regulations. New one on me but I buy tyres from Europe amongst other things so I hope this is a temporary glitch.

I haven't actually purchased the ipad yet.
Was going to our local apple store this weekend but the lockdown has put paid to that.
I can order online but delivery will be way past her birthday.🤔

Yes my Mac mini is four weeks delivery. Surprising though how my iPad skills have improve, they really are very useful bits of kit.

Thank you I’m very much looking forward to setting it up. It will be different to an IMac and PC in that it will have a separate 28 inch monitor with the small Mini sitting underneath it. The Mini is all SSD with the new Apple chip and 1 TB SSD memory. My daughter got it with one of her discounts either NHS or student so I will have a powerful system at a price quite a lot less than the equivalent IMAC. The big advantage for my wife is that I will spend more time upstairs and out of her way.

Quick update.....
Just ordered one from Argos and should be able to collect it from next Monday🙂

Strange because I've been trying their website for about a week and they have been unavailable for collection......only by post......approx 3/4 weeks.

You are lucky. iPad is excellent in many aspects, but not user friendly if your other stuff like phones etc are android. OH could not get on with it so gave it to grand daughter and bought a Samsung tablet. Life is now bliss. :)

Well......wife's birthday today and she's over the moon with it.
Apart from one thing.......
She can't download any games from the apple i store because(as I mentioned in my first post) its still in the blueyonder email address☹
It gives me no option to either delete this address or add our new one.
I think when, eventually the lockdown ends,we will have to take it to our local apple store for help.

Sorry......update🤭
Wife deleted the "fingerprint option" and can now download her games.
Think I should maybe download a "user manual" to help us work things out.👍

Georgeandade, I am guessing the apple shops are closed, I had exactly the same problem as your having, this won’t be of help for now but when I contacted the apple shop the shop staff were unable to help other than to transfer me to apple technical and I don’t know if the lady I spoke to was in the UK or in USA but she had an American accent, she was fantastic, she talked me through every step, she didn’t take control of my screen but it went along the line of, start with opening ipad click on......?now you can see....?press..... ?now press.....?
So on and so on, I’m not referring to you when I say she made it idiot proof and so easy and the final step was....and bingo all fixed, I had one regret if I’d known what was going to happen I would have made notes all the way through or better still video her call and the screen, she was so knowledgeable it was amazing, probably took about 15 minutes, my problem was I think the same as yours which was I had previous iPad had an Apple ID using an email from what was no longer available, I’m sure you will get it sorted but unfortunately the shop staff are pretty clueless regarding anything too complicated, I vaguely recall being told to start with that there was nothing they could do to help

Thank you Beehpee.
Very informative.
Unfortunately, whenever I contact companies for help,I usually get someone from a distant country and cannot understand their accent😂

I think for now,we will plod on and refer to the user manual we downloaded.
Luckily, for now,the apple password is working for our old, unretrievable email address.

I would move away to a new email address.

Yes your username should be a valid email address. Presumably you have managed to log on with the blueyonder one. And you are using iOS 14.3 (current).

If you follow this link. You can get to the screen where you can update your username to a valid address, and change your password if you want to. After doing this there will be a verification process to check it is you.

Thanks. I’ve gof the monitor all set up and ready. The new MacMini shipped out of Shenzhen factory evening of 23 rd cleared U.K. Customs this morning at 7.36am, and UPS to deliver it tomorrow morning between 1015-1215. Then the fun will start as unlike a normal transfer of data from computer to computer the old IMAC is dead so I cannot target it’s hard drive. Hopefully the Time Machine backups using OS Catalina are forward compatible with the new OS Big Sur so I can retrieve what data I require. Then I have to remove the old hard drive from the IMac and destroy it. No mean feat as there are no casing fastenings they are all fully bonded screen to casing. Might target the old hard drive through the back with a few 10 mm drill holes. 😱

It’s a direct order with Apple. The original order feed back gave a delivery date of around 7 Februar, so to get it earlier is a bonus for me as I miss the full screen capability.

The new MAC mini isn’t much larger than my IPad and even working with the Dell monitor it was a doddle to set up. Obviously there are a few more cables compared to a self contained IMac or Windows Pc but it is all solid state and so fast compared to my 2013 IMAC. The fun starts when trying to restore my pictures and music to the totally new operating system, but it came with free Apple telephone support who are excellent at talking you through areas of difficulty.

PS edit. BINGO image insert sorted. Thanks Steve (squared) 👍👍

Now that new MAC is working fine and back up data and setting sorted thoughts turned to how to securely dispose of the old hard drive that couldn’t be wiped clean as the computer had a sudden unscheduled mortality. So I resorted to the use of some precision engineering tools, probably from Birmingham. The small Torx driver isn’t shown 🙈

Next job fitting new bike tyres for when the weather picks up. No rush then.
