Transporting the longer and heavier caravans

This might sound a little feeble! Having toured for many years with a reasonable sized family tourer, children now left home and retirement now upon us, we have sited our smaller caravan for the season on a site of our choice. Spending more and more time away in the caravan the lure of the longer and heavier fixed bed single or twin axles now available is very attractive. However, we dont dont want to change our vehicle to the size and capacity needed and could not store the bigger van on our current property. Is there a service, or maybe a dealership which offers a service that on buying the bigger caravan would transport it to the site and then back into storage. Setting up with levelling and steadies, awning etc no problem, just the practical transportation of it.

I though I saw an advert in CC mag a while ago for a towing service, where do you want to go to and from ?

Thanks simon, just goes to show how well I read my CC magazine. Will scour it thoroughly. The idea of moving to a bigger van is just in the planning stage and exploring the idea. If there isnt just such a service around, well its a gap in the market which could be filled! We see so many of the bigger vans on sites now that I reckon there would be some interest in it. Thanks again.

Either PC Mag or the caravan mag did a detailed article on this subject a couple of years ago. Try their archives for a back copy.

Hi,

There is also an outfit that advertises (delivery to and from all parts of the UK) on E Bay - just enter Touring Caravans and you are bound to see it.

Cheers

Diane, what about the possibility of a static? It would give you more space and you wouldn't have to tow. Obviously you'd have to be in the one place......just a thought though.

Indeed why use a tourer for sitting in one place? I have never understood people who leave a tourer on a seasonal pitch???? A static would be much more comfortable for this sort of use.

Hi, we have a seasonal tourer, because it suits our lifestyle since having children.Like the original poster, we kept our original vehicles which allowed us to afford a large twin axle. We enjoy the seasonal site we are based upon and generaly site the van for two or three years until we want a change before moving on to another seasonal site in a different part of the country. We find we manage to get away more than we did when we toured, getting 50+nights away last year, which I doubt we would have managed otherwise. We still have all the "good things" we associated with tourers such as using awnings etc and have many of the benefits of a static while still being able to "relocate" with minimal fuss. The site fees of seasonal tourers are also very favourable when compared to static vans, for example, our site in North wales, we pay
