Trauma Heating issues... I think

Wooops. Sorry about that. I hit the wrong button again.

Anyway, to try and cut a long one short, Our van is a Sterling Moonstone 2004 model. It has the fanmaster system heated via the Trauma Gas/Electric heater. On the top of the heater there is a Slide switch which has three settings(Manual / OFF / Auto) Now... we know how to use these and what the differences are but when we select auto, the fans don't kick into full power even if the van is quite cold. It seems to run a the one speed.

The strange thing is though, if you touch the switch, pushing it more towards the Auto setting, the fans momentarily kick in full blast.

This to me seems like a dodgy switch but I would like to get it confirmed before I get costs to get it repaired. I suppose my next question is, can you buy these switches off the shelf and are they easy to fit.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

Gary

Hi Gary

have you taken of the from panel yet to check the connections are all OK.

Reason I say this is that the panel on mine fell off once while travelling and one of the wires had pulled off. If this has happened to yours in the past and its not been put

back properly or damaged it might be the cause.

(PS I'm not teckkie so others may offer better advice)

Hi Gary

Assuming you have the fan speed on top setting then your system seems to be working the same as my last two caravans. I'll stand corected but I think until such time as the thermostat recognises the room temperature is high enough the heater works as a convector one rather than pumping "cold" air around the air outlet system.

Do you get the same reaction on electric, gas , electric and gas combined?

I don't think your switch is faulty, On auto it is not supposed to work the fan at full pelt until the "room" temperature has reached your pre set vaule, ie on the main swith outer ring 1-9.

Cheers

On 'Auto' the fan speed depends on the heat output from the heater (not the temperature of the 'van). As the heater warms up, the fan speed increases. On 'Manual', you set the speed as required. The switch does go on or off at the extremes of movement so yours sounds OK.

We set ours to to 2 or 3 on auto, otherwise it becomes too noisy.

The fitment (or not) of a remote thermostat is another issue.
