I am having trouble getting a sensible quote for travel insurance following my diagnosis.

Some companies decline to quote, others quote more than the holiday cost.

Has anybody any recommendations please?

Staysure claim to not reject any condition - but at what price.

The insurance business likes it both ways - since I was first diagnosed with cancer in '85, travel and life insurance has either been refused or loaded expensively but when I applied for an impaired life annuity when I retired I was told I was too healthy!

I think the only way to avoid the high cost is to self-insure, ie take the risk yourself - but that needs a big savings pot although you do get to save the "premium" if you don't claim.

“Paying too much” worked for one member going on a cruise, where others were extortionate. My son’s partners father has had prostate cancer now for 10 years and has only just given up long haul, and goes local to the Mediterranean or Scandinavia. I’ve asked the offspring which insurers he uses. Get back when I get info.

Me if I hadn’t had TURP it would not have been found, then premiums shot up even though it’s managed by monitoring no meds.

PS : Sons partners father used Staysure until 2 years ago, then Tesco. He’s not had surgery or radiotherapy or chemotherapy, but has been on hormone meds for four years now, but 6 years before just bloods and MRI scans.

A friend of mine had atrial fibrillation at night on a cruise ship, he reported to the onboard medic who initially wanted to medivac him ashore but decided to wait until the ship berthed in Miami. 48 hours in a USchospital. Plus he could not fly back to Ottawa so had to be driven from Miami to Ottawa. Total bill around $100,000 (US). Fortunately his Canadian Armed Forces travel insurance picked up the bill.
