Travelling down to Tintagel CC Site

Looking forward immensely to 2 weeks in Cornwall this year, starting with a week at Trewethett Farm (sp??) in Tintagel. We live just inside the Welsh border by the Second Severn Crossing.

However...we are due to arrive on Saturday 21st of July, which is the day after all the kiddie sprinkles break up from school, and I am more than a little anxious about the hideous traffic we are BOUND to come across. I am all for delaying the trip by 24 hours and going down on the Sunday, but hardworking husband understandably wants to squeeze every last minute out of his 2 weeks off and wants to go asap.

I see from the details that we are not allowed to arrive until 12 noon, so... if we got going at a stupid early morning time, is there somewhere we could stop for a few hours on the way? Preferably as near to our destination as possible. We have a very big outfit (Pajero + Senator Carolina), one 4 year old and an elderly dog.

I'm so envious of you going there as it looks lovely and the views apparently are wonderful. We tried to book a week in June way back at the begining of April, but most of the weekends were fully booked.

As to pulling over somewhere, some of the laybys on the A30 are large and have a buffer zone between you and the road, so you could stop for a few hours in one of those if you can keep a four year old well enough entertained in the van. However I seem to remember there is a reservoir off the A30 between Bodmin and Dartmoor which has a picnic area etc etc which may be suitable, but I haven't visited it so don't know if it is suitable for your outfit. Perhaps someone else is able to advise on that one

lovely site just make sure you have a tie down kit with you. The wind creeps up suddenly and can be very strong.

Hi All

Thanks for your responses. I'll have to look into the A30 a bit more - my daughter is as good as gold, so not too worried about entertaining her. Yes - I had heard about the wind. We only have a small porch awning, but will make sure the tie down kit is packed! We will be in Treamble Valley for the second week (went there last year), but we haven't explored the west coast (Bude etc.) yet. Any good beaches for old dogs???
