Travelling through Rouen

Does anyone know if the new bridge over the seigne (Pont Levant) has yet been completed? According to my Michelin map it was supposed to be finished in 2005 but the google satellite photo' just shows the piers in the river, whereas the google map shows a road passing over. Very confusing. Can someone enlighten me please?

And on Geoportail (French equivalent of Google Earth) the bridge carriageway is shown across the river, but the connection on the north side doesn't look finished.

However, it is open (since October 2008) - and is now called the Pont Gustave Flaubert. Though it was designed to be raised to allow shipping through, apparently it's not been raised once since it was opened!

Many thanks for that, but since posting the request, my "sat-nav" ("I'm sitting here doing the navigating" - hence sat-nav) has said that she would rather we cross the Seigne by the Pont Brotonne.

"I am not taking us through Rouen" was the actual words used. Far be it for me to rock the boat, "I know my place" so I've re-routed us that way as we have done it before.

We will be travelling to Dieppe for our last few nights before returning home at the end of June.

Hi Michael,

Don't worry about Rouen - it used to be a nightmare, but slowly, over the years, things have improved. Providing you know where you need to be when you come out of Rouen, it's much more straightforward these days.

I'm not sure whether it was 2 or 3 years ago that we last went that way and there were lots of roadworks on the new bridge (it was mega slow!), so I'm sure it must be finished by now.

Enjoy your trip.

Jo
