travelling with dipped beam headlights in france

Anyone recently been to France and can enlighten me as to the need to put dipped headlights on during daytime outside of built up areas. I believe this was a trial recently and has now been made law.

We returned from our holiday in France about three weeks ago. We understood at that point that the dipped headlights were still only a recommendation, not a legal requirement. Local practice seemed to be to use dipped beams on dull or wet days, but not in bright sunny conditions. We followed what everyone else was doing and had no problems.

didnt see anyone using dipped headlights unless there was spray / dull on motorway.

The trial ended in April, it was mainly ignored by the French.

Most drivers using lights during the day were non-French, me included!
