Has anyone stayed at this site and, if so, what are your views of it? We want to go to the Lake District next year and thought this would be a good location but any other ideas welcomed.

Hi Catherine

We stayed at Troutbeck in May. An absolutely delightful Caravan Club site. The facilities, toilets , showers etc were a pleasure to use. The blocks were all heated and so clean. Location is good too with a fine woodland walk through Forestry Commission land, great for the dogs. Plus you have the beauty of the entire Lake District on hand. One of favourite sites. It is popular so I suggest you reserve your place early on.

Cheers

Alan

Catherine,

As has been said by others, Troutbeck Head is a super site. A major advantage is that access from the A66 is very easy compared with trying to reach, for example, Park Coppice at Conaston. You will not be disappointed.

If you enjoy eating out, try the Mill Inn at Mungrisdale.

Catherine, if your the sort that likes loads of aminities, pub, club etc within walking distance, then Troutbeck isn't the place to stay. Having said that, Troutbeck is a credit to the wardens and the CC. Its a lovely site with some nice views. If you enjoy walking then its an Ideal base, just be prepaired to use your car to get to where ever. Again, a super site.

We styaed at Troutbeck Head in July, and as the other posts say it is an excellent site. Location is key, if you like walking, cycling, outdoor pursuits then it's a great site. Howver if you are after the tourist hotspots of Ambleside, Windermere etc, it's a long drive!

The actually area surrounding Troutbeck Head is beautiful, and the noise from the attached activity centre is minimal really, just a few screams every now and again when a buggy goes through the beck and everyone gets wet!

Nearest proper supermarkets are quite a distance away in Carlisle, but the main road access is good.

There are supermarkets much closer!!!

Keswick and Penrith both have good supermarkets.I wouldn't dream of going to Carlisle!
