You have to hold the gas button in for about 20 seconds to allow the safety cutout thermocouple to warm up. Are you doing this?

If I understand you correctly, the symptoms you describe are almost certainly related to the flue pipe or roof exhaust. The fact that you have had to ask this question suggests to me you do not have gas fitting experience and consequently I have to recommend yo get the gas appliances checked by an professional fitter.

You may use your caravan dealer or a mobile engineer.

How long have you had this fire?
Are you igniting it correctly as described by Sir WC?

As the OP has said it works OK on low setting, the problem is with the main burner.
This could be as simple as a spider web inside the burner (which are anything but simple to get out!), or a damaged burner gauze.

As getting the burner unit out will entail breaking gas unions it is best left to an engineer to do the work and service the fire at the same time.
