I've seen alot of different answers to this so could someone give me a yes or no answer please.
I have a Truma bulkhead regulator with automatic changeover.
What i want to do is to only take 1 propane bottle with me and buy a french propane bottle over there.
Can i connect a french propane bottle to 1 side of my regulator using just a uk butane pigtail? i.e not using any other regulator?
Thanks in advance

No, you need to get a French pigtail which will fit the reg and the French bottle, they are readily available. Sorry not quite a Yes or No answer.

Hello Keith,

The preferred method is to obtain a new pigtail to fit the type of bottle you intend to use. Just a note of warning, When you buy a commercial Propane refill, its not pure Propane. the bulk of it is Propane but it is often supplemented with other gasses to produce the required storage and burning characteristics. In the UK the mixes are closely controlled, but on the continent the mixes may be slightly different or not as carefully mixed - not enough to cause a problem with burning, but it may affect the way the change over valve works.

I am not sure exactly how the Truma Bulkhead changer over regulator works, but the older version actually used two regulators, which were set a slightly different output pressures. The difference in O/P pressure would preferentially empty the bottle with the higher O/P regulator. With the older version it was recommend that you don’t use a mixture of British and continental bottles at the same time.
