Truma Heating

Hi, just got a 2007 Elddis Crusader Superstorm and was making sure everything was working okay. The only thing I could fault was the heating! I had the caravan plugged into the mains and had the space heater (electric operation). The fan control was on at 5 automatic mode. The control panel was on the 230v position and I was using the 1000w & 2000W power rating (the dial round at 9), yet the heating didn't cosy up the caravan (especially not at the rear). Our last caravan would've been cosy after a couple of hours but I had the heating on all day & it still seemed airish. Is it just going to be like this because it's a bigger van or is there something I'm missing!!

The biggest mistake you can amke is to expect the electric heating to warm a van from cold, especially in these conditions.

The Truma fires are meant to be used primarily on gas, the electric was only added as users wanted it, as the usual cry goes,I am paying for electric and I want to use it.

The only way to ensure a decent warmth of van is to heat first on gas until the whole fabric of the van is warm, not just the living area.

Then if you want switch to electric but keep the fan speed to 2 or 3 MAX as otherwise you wil drag too much cold air over the elements and defeat any warming properties.

Also it is important where the control switch is located as if it is close to the fire, like in a wardrobe wall, the wardrobe will get nice and warm and switch the heat off until the inside cools again, which could be some time!!

If your control switch is in a location like this, you need a remote thermostat fitted.

Hi,

Thankyou for your advice, I'll try this and hopefully the children will feel some warm air circulating through their bedroom area!

Many Thanks.

It could be that the relays on the control board are not working. Talk to Gary at Arc Systems.

Hi,

Thankyou for your advice. I'm going to try Damian's advice first and if that's not productive I'll get in touch with Gary.

Many Thanks.
