Truma Ultrastore Water Heater

Good Afternoon. Just after some advice if possible.

Just wondered if anyone has any idea on what basics to check on my Truma Ultra store water heater before I book my 2003 Abbey Adventura 320 into my local dealer.

When on hook up, it appears that the hot water at the kitchen sink comes through hot intermittently i.e. sometimes keeps going hot cold hot cold or doesn't get hot at all even after a few seconds of the tap being operated, however there doesn't ever seem to be a issue with hot water in the bathroom as the hot from the bathroom sink and shower are always consistently hot when the tap is operated and you never have to wait a long period of time for the water to get hot.

Originally I thought a bad electrical connection somewhere was the cause but I cannot get my head round why the bathroom hot tap is always ok but the kitchen plays up.

Any advice much appreciated

It could be the tap has its a mixer type, not sure maybe some one on here has had the same problem

Hi Stuart, Im no expert but it sounds as if you have a problem with the tap more than A heater /hot water fault. I suspect you have a combined hot/cold tap & some thing is wrong with it allowing the cold water to get through when you are wanting cold

Hello Stuart.

The alternate hot-cold symptom suggests you may be getting a surge effect. This usually happens with caravans that have a pressure switch controlled pump and mixer taps. A point to check is that the mixer tap on the shower has both hot and cold knobs fully turned off when the shower is not in use.

Adjusting the pressure switch can often reduce the effect

Or it can be minimised or eliminated by fitting a surge damper, or balancing air reservoir on the cold supply - your dealer should be able to advise you on this.

You may also have a problem with non return valves in the pipework not functioning properly. It really sounds as though the system needs to be checked bit by bit to make sure each element is working properly.

dose it have a diverter valve if not it could be the tap [ys self cuold the hot water be runing back .

Thanks for your responses so far. I dont believe my van has a diverter valve so as mentioned by some of you, I now tend to think it may be a kitchen tap issue or a pressure/non return valve issue.

Not really understanding how my van is plumbed up, is assume there must be two non-return valves in series with the water pipes one for kitchen water feeds and one for bathroom feeds or is the van plumbed up in series rather than parallel in which case one non return valve for the cold water line and one for the hot water line.

I will carry out some more checks this weekend and see what I find.
