Hi everyone,

Trying to find out if the water heater can be left on when using it with gas. I understand that it can when using it via electric operation and a lot of sites say this, but no one says if safe to do so for gas operation. For now I've been switching it off after 30mins or so for fear of water constantly boiling away.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers Steve.

Despite the original title of the heater being a "Truma Boiler", boil, is one thing it should never do, it only heats water to a preset temperature (typically 65 to 70C) then it cycles on its thermostat. Providing the heater is working correctly it is perfectly safe to leave on 24/7. Your cold water system will keep the tank filled to the correct level, so it should never run dry.

However there is nothing wrong with the way you are using it in fact that is the most efficient way , because you are only heating the water when you want it. It's just less convenient as you have to plan when you want hot water.

John,

Thanks for the swift reply. Ok so I now understand it's safe to leave on even if using via gas.
I thought however that it would be more efficient to leave on as presume it's using a lot less gas to keep it at say 65-70C temperature as appose to heat the water up from cold.

I'm guessing that all depends on how often I use it throughout the day though. I.e. Once, no point leaving on. Several times, maybe more efficient to leave on. If that makes sense.

Cheers Steve

Its always more efficient to turn it off and just heat water when you want it, but as I said it's far less convenient.

In practice the gas usage to maintain the tank is quite low and many people just leave it turned on during the day and shoulder the small cost of the gas used. Even more people just use the electric element when they're on a hook up site. You can use both together for a fast heat up, then when its hot just run it on the mains side.

It's really up to you , but I can confirm the heater is designed to be safe to leave on for extended periods.
