Truman Traumatic s3002 Temperature problem

Hi Guys I live in Australia have a Lunar Quasar 462 ok when I push down the control gas nob to start the gas heater all works fine but the problem is the temperature bial from 1 to 10 will not adjust just staying on high heat any ideas what the problem could be.
 
It will stay on high until it reaches temperature, then it will drop down to the pilot flame.
Having said that there is a brass bulb with alcohol in that switches the valve to pilot when it reaches selected temperature, if this is broken I believe the flame will continue to run flat out.
 
Thank you for your reply yes it maybe the the mini value that connected to the thermo coupler not sure never came across this before can fine any info or post on this problem
