hello ive got a 2006 coachman vip fitted with the Truman unlraheat
the fire does not work
the fan will run but no heat
its switched on at the back main switch the socket water heater work also
the thermostat control does not light up with the green led ? when turned on to any of the settings
help please

Hi.

The name of the heater manufacturer is TRUMA.

The first thing to do is to check your operating instructions to make sure you are using the appliances correctly. Some appliances have additional switches and fuses fitted by the caravan manufacturer so its important to check those out as well.

Assuming you are following the instructions, and there is still no joy, when were the appliances last serviced? If its more than 3 years ago I'd suggest that should be your next move.

There are plenty of caravan dealers who do it or you could use a mobile engineer who might be cheaper.

PLease bear in mind that as the Ultraheat is also a gas appliance it must serviced in accordance with the manufactures instructions but a competent fitter.

Firstly the Fan will run because this is a 12volt item which uses the 12volt supply from the caravan Battery or power supply (charger)
The controls for the heater work on 12volts also. But this 12volt supply comes from a small 230v to 12v transformer built into the control PCB at the rear of the fire

If you have no Green light you may have( A) No 230 volt supply to the control pcb, or( B) the small transformer on the PCB has failed this is quite common. Are you competent with 230 volt electrics?

Because you are new to the forum and you have not enlightened us with what your qualifications and skills you have we are left in a quandary with the level and type of advice to give.

The Truma Ultraheat is intimately connected gas heater, and combines Gas, Mains Electricity and 12V energy systems. It requires more than just common knowledge to intervene with these systems, to ensure any work on them is both effective and safe.

Both LPG and Mains power have various legal codes of practice associated with installation maintenance, repairs and removal of appliances, and unless you are fully competent with the them you should not touch them.

I'm sorry if my post here is a bit draconian, but you have asked for help; you have been given sound advice and yet your most recent post

leaves me with a strong suspicion you have chosen to ignore the advice already given and do not have proven competencies of working on these appliances.

In the interests of you and your families safety, I suggest you contact a mobile engineer.

I am afraid I must make a couple of observations on statements posted in previous posts.

The Ultraheat is NOT a gas appliance, it is purely electrical and is a totally separate unit to the gas fire, albeit that it sits behind the fire and uses the same blown air system as the gas fire.

Second is " The Truma Ultraheat is intimately connected gas heater, and combines Gas, Mains Electricity and 12V energy systems."

Again the inference that the Ultraheat is a gas powered unit is totally wrong . It is a stand alone electric system which only has mains power connected to it.
The 12v operation of the thermostat is fed by a transformer on the Ultraheat PCB, which is totally separate from the main 12v systems.

However, as the unit sits behind the fire and normally needs the fire to be removed to gain access it is best left to a qualified engineer as not only is there gas connections but also exhaust seals to replace and test on refitting the fire.

Hello Damian,

In the vernacular the "Ultraheat" name has become synonymous as meaning the combination of SL and element, in much the same way that vacuum cleaners are often referred to as Hoovers.

You are correct about the ultraheat not actually being a gas appliance,and I should have re read my postings for accuracy. However as you don't get stand alone Utraheats, and they are only ever fitted in conjunction with an SL3002, the two parts are therefore intimately connected.

In most cases there is no way to access the element without removing the gas appliance which means a gas competent fitter must be involved.

Despite the technical inaccuracy, I'm sure you agree with the message.
