Turbo or not Turbo that is the question!!!!

I feel really dumb asking this BUT here goes! We have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.8 CRD LTD.Does it have a Turbo or not? Also what sort of oil and coolant should we use? We have been given conflicting info from dealers and stores so this is the only place I know will give the right answer. After you have all stopped laughing and shaking your heads I know you will come up with the solution!!!!

Yes it definately has a turbo but don't you have a handbook?

Oil and coolant spec will be included in the service section.

A 10-40 semi synthetic diesel oil will do fine in your engine and any reputable antifreeze will be OK for the coolant system.

I would suggest Halfords, their products are reasonably priced and of premium quality ( I use them) but all motorist shops and even supermarkets will stock suitable stuff and any major maker such as Castrol, Mobile or Comma ect. will be equally as good.

Ideally you should stick to the same manufacturer of fluids as is already in your Jeep but modern oils and antifreeze will mix with no probs.

Good luck and don't forget Turbo diesels need their oil changed regularly. Tip use Kwickfit.

Thanks David for your prompr response.Yes we have the handbook but it has the spec for various models in it.This is the first 4x4 we have owned and Robert,my husband,is a bit confused by the change and afraid of doing things wrong. As you can probably tell we are not young folk.We had it fully serviced in July this year by a Jeep dealership and they put Mobil One fully synthetic 0 to 40.But when we went to Halfords to get some extra oil they told us there was no Turbo and that really confused us.

Thanks again

Halfords information is only as good as their database. They always try and sell me the wrong fuel filter for my car because their system doesn't know there are two different types of fuel filter housings that were used by the car manufacture.

Have to agree with you on Halfords unless you know what you want they are pretty useless - they suffer from "spotty yooth syndrome" in the customer service department in my experience.

Probably ok if you want fluffy dice or a gigantic woofer for your megablasting ipod friendly MP3 compliant "frontface"

They do have a big choice of oil and antifreeze though.

Happy to oblige - not in the first flush myself but refuse to be ground down by it! Mobile 1 is probably the best oil you can get. They do one for petrol engines and one for diesel, make sure you get the right one!

If you had a dealer service they should have topped the coolant up - going by colour is a goodway to judge what to buy to top up.

It will be either blue, green or pink. The latter is 5 year coolant and you can buy it ready mixed in Halford or from the dealer.

See my later post on Halfords by the way, I am by no means a fan1
