We were at a beautiful camp site in the Peak District this weekend. We'd had a busy day out and about with friends and had just returned to the site for our tea and a sit down, listening to the beautiful bird song, watching the spectacular sunset, the distant sounds of children playing, and ANT AND DEC'S SATURDAY SPECTACULAR (or similar)!!!!! suddenly blasted out on the air courtesy of the large campervan next door who had some sort of open air tv experience going on behind a large windbreak. There was a row of chairs, a large drunken contingent all cheering along and constant noise. I mean really noisy - we could hear every word of the programme and see it over the windbreak.

Anyone else think this is a bit off? I am really not bothered if people are so addicted to TV that they feel it necessary to bring it away with them on holiday and watch it in the caravan peacefully (we don't take one as we don't watch much TV and we holiday to be together and do things) but our evening was spoiled by them blasting this rubbish at us. They were even singing along to it. Bizarre.

At 10.30pm as we turned in for the night I did go over and ask them to keep the noise down as our friends had a small baby and were in a tent and were pitched right next to them. My kids were fast asleep in our van by this time and vans are pretty soundproof anyway but I was worried our friends wouldn't want to come camping again as this was their first time and they were rather put off by the chavs next door.

So TVs - outdoor as open air theatre - do you think this is acceptable?

I think its disgraceful how inconsiderate some people are. A couple of years ago we were in whales and the couple in the tent next to us were first playing games on their computer (desk top not lap top) and then watched a dvd on it. It had a cracking sound system. In the end I had to tell them to turn it down, needless to say they went the next day.

It seems that idiocy is now to be found everywhere now. Dont know what kind of site this was but the site staff should have picked up on this and done something.

no it is not.

I would have gone over and complained and told them that if they did not quieten down I would report them to the site manager.

most sites have a rule no noise after 11pm and the sites I have been on take complaints very seriously (ask liz).

last year on our way back from cornwall we stayed on a site close to the M5 near weston super mare for a stop over, unfortunatly on the very weeekend they held the E4 party on the beach.

the site was full of teenagers in tents and the noise was appaling even after dark so I went to the site office and was greeted by other campers some with small children complaining about the noise the site owner then went round every tent and told them shut up or pack up and leave.

within 15 minutes silence, and we all got a good nights sleep.

The other day i finished a 5 wk lodging job and my other half decided that we needed to have a weekend to ourselves in the van. So off we shot to Fforestfields at Builth.

Upon arrival we found that in our has to depart we had forotten to nab the tv back off our daughter and had even forgot the wife's CD player.

Did it spoil our weekend? Did it hell.

We laughed to ourselves watching a DVD on a 3" monitor in the car's DVD player which probably bemused our fellow campers.

Telly is only full of repeats anyway.

Reporting inappropriate behavior to the management is the right way to go. Mind you if that falls on deaf ears, as a last resort, I usually resort to turning their power off and if that fails unplug the cable and take a pair of snips to it.

Cruel some might say, but effective I call it. Being 6ft 1" and a builder does help though.

We all like a holiday for a rest, fun is great but with due consideration for others.
