TV in France and Spain

We have been caravanning for 18 years and have visted France and most areas of the UK.One thing i know nothing about is British TV reception in southern France and Spain

What do i need to receive BBC and ITV ?

How does it work and what does it cost ?

In the south of France, even using our sky dish, we have been unable to get BBC1, 2, ITV etc. However, we have no problem when in the Vendee area, obviosuly still using sky dish. Leave plenty of time to get a signal until you get a little practice with the aerial.

Satellite is your only answer and we have set it up fine in the South of france. Go to satelliteforcaravans.co.uk and you will learn all you need to know.

Coljac,

The only way to get UK TV outside the UK is via a satellite dish.

If you don't want the premium services (SKY) and are happy with the Freeview channels (BBC1 to 4, ITV1 to 3, etc) then you can get a FreeSat equivalent - lets you pick up the free digital channels but via the satellite.

You should also be able to receive BBC Radio on the FreeSat as well - the DAB radio channels are broadcast as well.

In the UK you can use a small "mini" dish because the satellite is aimed at the Uk, but as you head further South you move away from the strongest satellite signals - so you'll need a bigger and bigger sat. dish as you head further South.

Now I say all this as if we have this set-up in our van, but no.

At home we have a FreeView TV, but we've never bothered with a TV in the caravan - and listen to music from a Walkman MP3 player or to the BBC World Service on a short wave radio.

I also recommentd the satelliteforcaravans.co.uk site.

I have been able to pick up the main 5 channels (plus others such as SKY News) all through France and into Spain near Barcelona.

The main thing is the size of your equipment, (Sat DISH, I mean).

have a look in Towsure they sell some dishes and say they can get a signal in the south of France,

I`ve tried tripods and had a lot of sucess on the Med but to save arguments, when I etired I splashed out on an auto seek Oyster dish its brilliant push a button and away you go she gets corrie anywhere in france and spain

hello mate, the oyser system cost about 1,800 pounds fitted,

I get every thing I can get at home, it comes with its own 12volt sky box all you take is your card. its a one off payment there are no other fees apart from your sky fees at home,i suppose it could be set to pick up none sky channels, you need to make enquiries at www.tranleisure.co.uk they talk alot about motor homes but they fitted my system to the van wihout any problems. let me know how you get on good luck.
