TV reception France

We are taking our first trip to France with the caravan on Wednesday, staying not far from Cherbourg.

Can anyone tell me what sort of TV reception there is there? We generally use a mains TV with standard aerial and have no problems. Any idea what sort of reception (if any) via "igi"box)?

Obvioulsy we will be spending most of our time walking out in the glorious Autumn weather aeare about to have - but wouldn't mind the odd bit of TV after dark! Many thanks. JohnJ

Hi John.

All the way down the west coast of the Cherbourg peninsular - from Carteret to Granville - you can pick up British (Channel Islands)TV by pointing your arial towards Jersey. We used to do this many years ago, before satellite TV existed. I think you need a horizontally polarised arial if I remember correctly.

I have just get back from France and couldnt get any TV reception. Im lead to beleive this has nothing to do with the van but UK TVs work on "PAL" and France uses "SECAM" so the TV wont work.

I dont pretend to know what this means and am in the process of seeing if i can get a "decoder" to assist next time.

Anybody know how to solve this i would love to know but i would assume your TV wont work unless you find out for definate that it will
