Hi

Can anyone tell me if you are able to pick up tv,with dish, on the following sites.

Du viaduc - Millau

Camp du verdon - Castellane

Selection camping - La croix valmer

Im away for 6 weeks, and wondered if it was worth carting the extra equipment around if there is no chance on any of the sites. Thanks Pat

I must admit I have not been to these sites or to this part of France but have been in Southern Austria this year and Southern Italy other years and have always been able to pick up Sky. The only place we have not been able to pick it up is far Southern Spain so it is woth taking I think. You do need a larger dish the further south you go.

You don't say what size dish you have. I would have thought that a minimum of 60cms would be OK although the further south you go an 80 cms dish might be better. We now use an 80cm dish but mainly because we go further east to Germany.

A 60cm dish should work almost everywhere in France (even a 45cm will work in many places) so it's well worth taking the equipment.

It's only when you go further afield that you need to think about bigger dishes etc.

I have a semitronic 66E sat dish on my caravan and it worked both in Germany and in Austria about 15 kilometres from the Slovenian border.

had all free sat channels

60 cm will work well until the France/Spain border and usually a little bit beyond. Of course watch out for trees as we saw numerous campers trying to move th tripod all over the pitch to get a clear sight. Further south you need the bigger 90 cm disch and below Alicante you need 130 cm. Of course you will always meet someone who states they have picked up everything with a tiny dish, and maybe they are telling the truth, but the general ruun is not the case.

Of course, one has to ask (tongue in cheek) are you so 'hooked' on soaps that you need tv when on holiday. Enjoying the countryside and way of life usually meant that by 9 pm I was knackered and heading for bed. If you wish to watch the news, don't bother as it is always depressing.

You will be OK in Millau and should be ok with the others providing you get a view of the sky without trees getting in the way.
Regarding "Why bother" type replies, we started to carry our satelite kit after being in France during the fuel dispute with no idea what was going on when the filling stations closed (just try the BBC world service for anything useful!) and the time after 5 weeks of rain in France with no weather forcasts to help us decide where to run to. Its not so bad now with internet at most places but that might also fall into the "depressing news" category.
For myself I am happy to get radio 4 and keep the other half happy with soaps.
