twin sockets

are twin sockets really needded to tow a caravan i have been suppiied with two but someone has told me that i really dont need two, is this correct.

sory new to towing

Paul, it is not absolutely necessary to use both, but saying that is with some reservations.

The 12N or Black socket takes care of all your day to day running lights, ie Brakes, Indicators, Side Lights, Tail Lights and Fog Light.

The 12S socket provides the other things, such as Reversing Lights and Fridge 12v supply whilst towing, and a 12v supply to charge the leisure battery in the caravan whilst towing.

It is rather silly to not make use of the advantages the 12S socket provides, so in reality, YES you do need both.

Paul, you are going to need the black one, 12N as its called, as this is for the road lights and indicators on the caravan. The grey one, 12S, is for the fridge, caravan battery, internal lights and possibaly the reversing lights, you could say that this not a requirement to wire up but you will certainly need the black one.
