We have an Abbey Freestyle 470 SE yr 2002 2 berth and cannot find the tyre pressures anywhere in the handbook or on the internet can anyone please help with this as to what the pressures should be. We are now getting desperate to find this as we need to get a new tyre so want to be sure on the pressure it should be at.

Thanks in advance

The pressure per tyre will be:

[MTPLM] divided by [number of tyres] divided by [Max load printed on tyre side wall] multiplied by [Max pressure printed on tyre side wall]

The above formula allows for different tyre manufacturers giving different max load @ max pressure figures. Just because one person has their tyre at a certain pressure it doesn't mean the next person has to use that pressure iF the tyres are different.

Unfortunately I cannot find the information on line as it is not shown on the usual websites. The caravan has an MTPLM of 975 kg which would tend to suggest a figure around 42 - 45 psi but cannot be sure. The maximum pressure will be on the tyre itself but this will almost certainly be higher than you want.
The tyre dealer should have information as to the correct pressure for that weight so unless someone else has one and can advise I would ask them for help. If not the best bet might to be get the pressure for a similar weight caravan and use that as a guide.

without knowing the load index of whatever size tyres are fitted surely its no more than guess work to give any psi figures out? although from a starting point too much air [psi] without going above the tyres max psi design is better then too less psi..

This web site seems to work quite well and matches my specified pressure quite closely.

Interestingly I have seen other web sites that suggest you should never exceed 90% of the tyre's maximum pressure, or elsewhere it suggested never more (cold) than 10psi lower than the rated maximum. The web site above complies with the latter on my 'van.
interestingly my burstner came factory fitted with tyres rated to 750kg each and the burstner max weight was 1500kg.... the tyres were therefore also at max permissible psi.. did worry me, but Lutz answered my query on here. stating it was fine.. nothing wrong with cautious, but do now tend to know question what authority some sites have to give out their recommendations based on what data? after all proper. testing costs a fortune
