Hello Marie,

I cannot tell you what the tyre pressures should be on your caravan, you must seek that information either from the caravans handbook or contact your dealer who should be able to help.

In general caravan tyre pressures tend to be considerably higher than most cars.

Marie, use the tyre pressure quoted in the caravan handbook. It is possible it may be the same as the car pressures, but NOT certain. As an example, my car pressures are 30 lbs/sq in front and 34 back, but the van pressure is 65lbs/sq in.

Hi Marie.

The type of van is unimportant it is what tpye of tyre that is fitted that matters.there are two types of tyre that may be used, most vans less than 15 years old will normaly have radial tyres fitted.Others may have Crossply. It is important to make sure that all tyres are the same type. generaly ,pressures for caravan tyres are much higher than a simular tyre on a car, they need the higher pressure to suport the weight. the correct pressure is normaly found in the service book, if not, it may be marked on the tyre.it is very important that the correct pressure is maitained for safety and wear.

Hope this is helpfull if you need any further assitance come back.

regards

IMPORATNT CORRECTION

Jim. M says "tyre the correct pressure is normaly found in the service book, if not, it may be marked on the tyre."

Jims second part of the sentence is incorrect. The tyre manufacturer does not know what the correct tyre pressure should be for any specific caravan, and therfore cannot mark it on the tyre. The tyre will only carry the maximum permitted operating pressure, which must always be higher than the required working presure identified by the caravan manufacturer.

As before check with your hand book or the caravan dealer/manufacture for the correct tyre pressure for your model of caravan.

First caravan handbooks in general only quote one pressure regardless of if the van is loaded or not, I think that answers your question and would explain your confusion.

It is also worth pointing out that the handbook might be wrong dependent on what tyres are currently fitted?.

While most older vans dependent on the weight would use 6 or 8ply tyres the modern 'reinforced' tyre carries the same weight but at a much lower pressure!.

The type and maximum weights and pressures are embossed on the side of the tyre and together with the actual weight of the van which may require a trip to the local weighbridge the correct pressure can be calculated thus;

Add the maximum weights the 2 or 4 tyres can carry together and divide a single tyres maximum pressure by this total, this will give you a very small number much less than one.

Now multiply this number by the weight of your van to give you a single tyres pressure.

Note: All tyres must be the same for weight and pressure for the calculation to be accurate

Hey Buddy

Read carefully I did not say that tyre manufacturers would know the pressure for a perticular van, BUT the pressure indicated is the max for that type of tyre.whether it is fitted to a car or a jumbo. I do grant people with some common sence.

Hello Jim.

I if a novice had read your posting they could have interpreted to mean that the correct running pressure was marked on the side wall of tyre.

That would have been incorrect and thus to avoid anyone making that mistake I consider it my duty to bring it to their attention.
