Tyre Repair

We recently returned from a local trip when I noticed that a tyre on my Pegasus looked a bit flat. Upon testing I found a pressure of 30lbs against recommended of 63lbs. I always check pressure and torque before setting out on a trip. I pumped up and tested next day down again by 10lbs. I looked on web and found E Tyres. They quoted £25 for puncture repair at my home. If I had purchased tyre from them repair would have been free. I had to give them details of tyre and pay for a new tyre by card as this would be brought by fitter, I would receive refund if tyre not used. I booked for visit next day and was phoned by 9.30 am to confirm time for visit in 2 hour window. Fitter arrived on time, repaired puncture ( a large nail), I had Tyron bands on caravan, and I received a refund of difference. Their charge for new tyre would have been approx £56. Worked well as I only had 5 days available after arriving back with van before setting off with grandchild on annual holiday. Hopes this helps someone. Have any others had experience of other mobile tyre services.

So would I, running at less than half the required pressure could and very likely has done both flexing and heating damage to the tyrewall. You have I suspect no clear idea how long its been running at progressively reducing pressure. The integrity of your tyre is so important to your own and others safety let alone potential consequential damage to the van should it fail, is it worth the saving?

I recently had my tyres replaced after four years of use (code on tyre showed tyres five years old). Used Express Mobile tyres, whose engineer is based in warrington. They have others based in Ormskirk and Widnes and cover Merseyside, Cheshire, St.Helens and the Wigan area.
Excellent service which was convenient to me and the tyres were changed at home. I would definitely recommend them.

It has been common practice for years that car drivers usually keep the only just legal tyre as a spare for the car. To be quite honest most new cars have a spare tyre that is never used within the first five years and as such is past it's best anyway. With the cost of tyres dropping as each tyre depot compeat's with the next one to exist in this recession, putting a price of under £60 on risk to safety of your pride and joy is pure folly!

Any tyre that has run under pressure will have damage to the side wall of the tyre and the overall strength of the tyre will be compromised so even using it as a spare would be unwise.

Let's face it! You will no doubt have a puncture at the most inconvienient time and often end up after spending time changing your wheel, be late getting to site and possably arriving in the dark at this time of year. Why risk a second and unsurmountable flat tyre by using a dodgy spare?!!

I also wonder just how many caravanners have changed their own caravan wheel. Let alone ask how many have practiced at home beforehand so that they know what the game is like.
