tyres getting hot worried

Hi all.

on the first trip with my Fleetwood Colchester 2 1150 approx

18 years old.

the van has two new ( Hancook 165 R 13 C) tyres on her running at 35 psi.

she has weights of 692 unlad 900 kg top weight ,

my problems is the tyres got Hot!! (warmer than warm) (after only twenty miles,

The hubs were cool so the brakes aren't binding,

am i running the presures to high or to low ?

or is this normal

Hi Paul

Your tyres will heat up when on the road, but if you think they are to warm i would say they are under inflated. I expect the tyres are the same size as the old ones so what preasure did you have them at ?

The table on page 5 of the above leaflet shows you could be running too low a cold inflation pressure.

Decide for yourself.....but I would use 40psi

ooks like they are too low.

will check them again tommorow, thought i had got tyres covered getting one with new tyres , just causious, not used to hot tyres at such a low distance and 45 mph.

sorted the problem of hot tyres.

(problem was i used to run on 35psi had hot tyres )

tried the presures at 38psi less heat in tyres.

finnaly went for 44 psi and hey presto 120 miles 60 odd each way the outer tread is warm doing 50/55 but the sidewalls tyres stayed cool.

success ,

just got back fully loaded and tyres fine so for me 44psi seams to work, stability fine,hubs cool,.

the tyres are reinforced but the limit on the side walls says max pressure 51 psi,

hope this may help others, (PS my van is an olc fleetwood colchester 1150 two bearth.)

While I get your point, your conclusion would seem a bit adrift?, you say your tyres are 165x13C which is not a reinforced tyre, that's a different type of construction and yours are 'Commercial' and 6ply tyres, load rating should be 91?

If so, for 900kg you should be using 38/9psi, 44psi would equate to load of 1043kg

my tyres are new 165r13c commercial reinforced tyres.

(my mistake.)

may bee i will try the pressure slightly lower as you say.

for a trip and see how warm they get.

i air on the side of caution as my good woman is allways saying

"I will just put this in the van it will be usefull"
