until recently my thetford toilet has worked perfectly but now when I fill the flush tank the bowl half fills by itself without anybody flushing it.

Welcome to the forum. I have never come across this problem but assume it is an electric flush as I cannot see how a manual one could do this. Presumably you can hear the pump working which suggests the electrics are not cutting off as they should. My immediate reaction is that the pump button is sticking and needs attention but never having met the problem I cannot be sure. Hopefully someone has met this before.
It may be worth checking the Thetford web site to see if they have a helpline you could try.

if you mean the pump runs by itself then this was fairly common on the C250, normally caused by condensation on the PCB under the silver foil (button) sometimes drying the PCB out and applying silicone grease/Vaseline on the PCB plug can help, sometimes it’s a case of replacing the PCB.

It sounds like it is self syphoning, until it gets to the level of fluid. I wonder if there is an anti Syphon valve.

Welcome to the forum James.

I agree with Martin.Sounds like you have Continual Flush Syndrome.. Remove the flush switch and pcb. Spray with electrical contact spray, Dry thoroughly. 9 times out of 10 should fix it .

It also helps us if in future you can name the model of Thetford or caravan concerned.👍
