Upgraded our Swift Charisma by post, just gave the dealer the CRIS number and sent £50 and they order the new tag from swift and send it on in the post.

They do nothing MTPLM are kept low on some caravans to increase the number of vehicles that can tow a particular model of van and it says in the technical data handbook what the maximum is.

Only worth it if you need the extra payload and don't go over you cars towing limit.

Thank you Mogwyth for you help I will have to have a look in the technical hand book and see
I do not have any issues with towing limit as my car will tow 2000kg and i can not see any upgrade taking it over that but i may be wrong
thank you once again Mark

Just look at the technical data handbook and the upper limit is only 1500kg and it is plated at 1459kg so that would be just a 41kg payload upgrade so do not know if it is worth it.
The pay load is 156kg now but i have lost 18.3kg as it as now got a motor mover fitted so is now down to 137.7kg
and as there is just the two of us the wife and I we have lots of room in the car so will more than likely leave it as is
but thank you you for you help with this Mogwyth
My be we will meet some day some where on a site
all the best for now Mark

Its worth mentioning that not every caravan can have its MTPLM upgraded. There are various factors that need to be satisfied. Firstly just because the axle fitted to a caravan may be rated higher than the current MTPLM, does not mean the caravan can be upgraded, the design and structural strength of the body work may be a limiting factor.

Some manufacturers may not offer any upgrades att all - its a matter of company policy.

Some manufacturers will only offer an upgrade to the first customer or on caravans not exceeding a particular age.

And as the OP has established sometimes the available upgrade is barely worth it.
