Used Sorento or XC90?

Hi all,

Having just had a lucky escape of buying a dodgy used Sorento,
from a Kia dealer! (I contacted the previous owner). I’ve been somewhat put off
buying a used Sorento!

Knowing a chap who tows with a Volvo XC90 (2005 2.4D5 SE
Auto) he cannot praise it highly enough.

All round it seems to be a better package than the Kia,
100Kg roof load, bigger boot, load compensating suspension and so on. Admittedly the Volvos have a few more miles on
them and they cost a bit more, but I’m not covering big miles.
So over to you guys for a real world view, Kia or Volvo, I
would love to hear your experiences both good and bad.

Cheers

Garry

We did go and look at the xc90 before getting the defender as the deals that were out there made it seem a very attractively priced vehicle. We didn't bother to take it out as we didn't like the angles around the driver, it gave us both the willies. I felt I wouldn't be able to drive it!! In addition seats 6 and 7 weren't suitable for use by our 8 year old let alone an adult. I would assume as you're also looking at the kia the rearmost seats wouldn't be an issue for you though. I have heard nothing but praise from the many people we know who use the kia as a tow car.

Had a old model Sorento XS auto for 7 years and absolutely nothing went wrong but Kia dealer was not good. Now got a 2010 XC70 and the car has now done 31k and never missed a beat with good local dealer. Pays your money......... Etc difficult choice, good luck.

Well never had a Kia Sorento but did buy a Kia Sedona. Unfortunately they are prone to engine/gearbox problems. Webought a second hand one from Ebay, great write up, but what a lemon, the automatic gearbox went after just under 900 miles after we got it, have just sold it for scrap. We got another one from a dealer with a warrenty so hopefully this one will last a lot longer. If this one goes then I will NOT be buying another Kia, yet I've seen loads around and other owners swear by them as a great tugger, oh well ...............

Have a look at Warranty Directs Reiability Index the Sorento is significantly better than the Xc 90 in reliability and average repair costs. It's even better on both counts than the "fabled" Toyota land cruiser"!! No wonder it used to be known as "Gods gift to caravanners"
