using remote with cable in powrtouch mover

had trouble with mover at weekend which was obviously some interference with remote,as it worked allright when we got on the site,worked intermittingly when packing up, when it packed in all together, when we got home we tried it and it was working fine.

where does the cable plug into from remote to caravan.could not find anything anywhere in the van????anyone tell me
 
As Roger says it plugs into the powrtouch box. Small black box usually installed in the vicinity of the leisure battery.
 
well i had a good look at the contol box and could not find anywhere for the cable to plug in,it is the flatish black square box wher all the power cables go to that you are on about???
 
Klarky further to what you were describing I read someone posting somewhere else about experiencing problems with their mover when they had their ariel booster switched on. Can't say I've came across that myself but might be worth considering.
 
The socket for the umbilical control on the powrtouch is next to the red and green LEDs on the control box.

If you do use it, make SURE you remove the battery from the remote unit first.
 
will have a good look next time van is out of storage.

did change the remote battery as a last resort(although i new it was ok)still didn't work.just a blip i hope????ta for all the feedback

remote cable definately plugs into the Powrtouch's control box, could be just the position its fitted in means you can't see it.

When I had occaision to use the cable (at the CC site at Crystal Palace) I did'nt have to take the battery out of the hand set, it worked OK for me.

Reasons why the remote wouldn't work properly? 1st remote's battery flat, 2nd vans battery run down (especially if you've not been on an EHU) 3rd Powerful radio or tv transmitter in the vacinity, 4th Any other radio transmitter (Mobile phone, alarm keyfob blipper, remote locking/unlocking for car being used) in the vacinity & last but not least! any one else with a mover using it at the same time! as all radio remotes of this type work on a very narrow transmitting band, you cn get whats called "bleed over" that is when a radio transmitter in a simular frequency range simply over rides your transmitters frequency broadcast frequency.
 
With my previous car, a Vauxhall, there were a couple of places locally with RF interference of some sort and the alarm wouldn't unlock on the remote.

It may just have been something similar.

I'm a bit confused about your comment re taking the battery out of the Powrmover hand set if using the umbilical. I had this mover from it's very early days and have only used the umbilical couple if times - just to check it works OK. However, I never removed the battery, nor do the instructions advise me to. Just wondered if you know something I don't?

Yes you are correct! I phoned Powrwheel and they told me the reason - and also said that with my vintage mover it would not have been in my original instructions.
 
Rod, I am glad you found out the correct information,

To those who say "it works with the battery in and the cord connected" you are wrong in giving this advice,

If you do use the handset on the umbilical cord with the battery still connected you WILL INVALIDATE your warranty,

How do I know this,I fit the movers for Powrtouch, and if anything goes wrong by using the handset with battery connected and the umbilical cord, it is very easy to see immediately, and the cost of repairs will be down to the individual.
 
Damian, the point is though, that if the question had not been raised here, I would have been none the wiser because there is nothing in my Powrtouch instructions to tell me to remove the battery. Hyperthetical in my case as the unit is well beyond the 5 years limit, so I would have to pay for repairs anyway. During the life of this mover, I have to say that Powrtouch have been absolutely great reqarding the warranty, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them.
 
I had a Powrtouch 3 fitted a couple of weeks ago. The fitter told me to remove the batery fom the handset if the cord is used.

In the instructions under Fault finding is says 'NB Always remove the handset battery when using this cable'
 
Klarky, the plug for the cable on my Mk3 Pwrwheel mover in on the opposite side of the control box to where the power cables go in, near the corner, its a small jack plug partly hidden by the black plastic cover. I took the plastic cover off mine to see it the first time.
 
I've just got an email back from Pwrwheel which says,

"Dear Vernon

The battery must be removed from the handset when using the umbilical cable otherwise the signal is transmitted by radio as well as by the cable. This sends two signals to the control board and causes the safety cut-out to operate.

OK Damian point taken, I have only tried it the once when I first fitted the unit last year. After getting out and reading my fitting instructions I realise that you are correct in the need to remove the remote battery when using the umbilical cord, I will remember this in future in case I ever have to use it.
 
As I am currently having some problems with my new Powrtouch mover I agree it does say remove the handset battery when using the cord, it also says with the cord connected to the control box and power on, there is 12volts accross the plug on the other end so you need to be careful if you unplug the handset.

My problem seems to be intermitent wireless control where ever I use it. It will suddenly stop, then restart for a few yards then stop again. My dealer today told me to check the aerial wire and sure enough it is not routed as per instructions, it is wrapped around the chassis. It should run in a straight line under the floor away from the control box and the last 1 inch left to hang free. (quoting the book) The same dealer did infact fit the mover! I have not been able to try the cord yet.
 
Chris, one cause of your problem, may be loose connections, either at the battery or on the control board.

Another cause may be low battery volts, they need a full 12v.

If you are still having problems ring Powrtouch and they will send an engineer to look at it for you.

Thanks I will look for loose connections. the battery volts are good, 13.4 before a long powtouch move then down to 12.6. still OK. The battery is big and new. My practical problem is that it is in a barn for storeage, so next week when I take it out for holiday, I will have to do some tests before checking with Powrtouch. e.g. use the cord, re-route the aerial etc. As an electrical engineer I can see that the installer broke all the Powrtouch guidelines If I can not do a simple fix it will be big boots down to the dealer.
