There doesn't seem to have been any recent discussion on the subject of small vacuum cleaners so I'll ask the question. Do members have any recommendations on which one to choose? 12 or 220 volt? I've seen the DirtDevil - is it any good?

And the reason is I suspect there are 90% men on here

On a serious note we tried 2 x 12volt vacumns and ended up binning them

they are rubbish.
We then got a 240volt light weight upright and havent look back since,
Cant remember the make as i dont use it (often)

We bought a small Dyson for the caravan as the carpets are quite thick in comparison to our previous caravans.

It appears from the above discussion, that you men are talking about vacuum cleaners whereas I, a person of the female gender, would say; Why are you taking a vacuum cleaner on holiday with you?

. Vac it out with the one from the house when you get back. Shoes off at the door. Job done.

Probably most of us prefer a clean environment in our caravan even when on holiday and also because some of us have our caravan in storage.

As one of the female gender and a dog owner, a vac or carpet sweeper is essential kit. I use a 12v car vac, bought it in 1979 and it's still going strong. I use it in conjuction with a carpet sweeper, though I upgraded the carpet sweeper to a Gtech rechargable which is bit.of good kit. Will recharge it before going to Twinwood and then onto Pickering and it will last until we go home (total 10 days). When used together they keep the dog hair (Jack Russell called Maddie aged 4½ yrs and loves caravanning) down to a minimum.
Hope this helps

We've got both.

We've got a little 240v Vax that hides away under the front seats and is used once per holiday for a good old clean up.

The one we use everyday is a 14v Black and Decker 'Dust Buster' - bought this very Easter - which is brilliant for just picking up bits & bobs, dust, leaves, hairs etc from the floor. It's not much use on carpet though.

Having tried both, i'd stick with 230v type. We have one called 'Magic Broom' from which you can remove the handle for storage and using inside the car etc. Need to have one when touring for 3 months at a time in hot sandy (warm sunny) places !

Oh, the name seems to work as I don't get anywhere near the vacuum cleaner unless away in the caravan - hasto be magic to achieve this.

Our rechargable Dyson works well and clears all the grit and dog hairs.
It lasts 7 - 8 minutes between charges.
You need to be on your hands and knees to use it

SWMBO seems to manage very well

So I leave her to it. She does a better job than me as I constantly remind her
