vacuum cleaning/sweeper

We currently have a small portable vacuum cleaner from Homebase that is useless and sounds like a helecopter. Can anyone recommend some kind of cleaner for the carpet that preferably does not use electricity and is extremely efficient? Thanks alot. Andy.

Hi Andy.

We use a Murphy Richards "pod" vaccume. It looks rather like a play toy but it is very good. Unfortunately it does require electric but it is small compact and dead easy to use.

There are, if you look around (Argos page 1029) rechargable carpet sweepers. These are light to carry and compact, do a reasonable job and are cheap to buy. We got ours from the NEC two years ago and it's still doing it's "reasonable" job today. They are not going to get imbedded sand out of the carpet pile, but anything loose on top of the carpet gets swept away.

I saw a carpet sweeper being exhibited at the caravan show held at GMEX, it looked like the old eubank type but ran on batteries he made it look good on his bit of carpet. I can't remember what it was called though, so they are made pherhaps some one on here knows the name.
