VAG new "Auto" gearboxs any good for towing.

i have read some posts here saying to stay clear of the ford double cluch "DSG" gearboxs and to only use touque convertor type.
Does this apply to the volkswagen/ audi DSG box?
Has anyone any expeirence of towing with the new Skoda superb/ new seat alhambra auto etc?

Hi
Try the link below, I found some usefull information, you will have to register to get in, it is worth a look if you are going for a Skoda. The Superb won the Caravan Club towcar of the year 2010, I think that had a DSG, and group winner this year.
There are some good comments about the DSG, however looking at the Skoda brochure, you get less MPG.
I have on order a Skoda Octavia Estate 4x4 2.0TDi, but my choice was the manual box.

A lot of VAG autos are DSG (clutches) cannot say waht they are like for towing but I know two people who don't like the hesitancy when pulling away from stop if you have not engaged handbrake annd neutral. The Telegraph honest John website explains the issues. Volvo give far more info and precautions when towing with powershift (DSG) than when a torque convertor box is fitted.

I used to run a Passat 140PD with a DSG. I found it excellent when solo and pulling my Senator indiana. I never had any instances of gear hunting and would not flinch from using a DSG again. It's a very smooth box with manual control if you want it.

Hi all

I have towed with seat leon 2.0tdi dsg and currently use vw eos 2.0tdi dsg . Both cars have been very good and economical at towing. I have not experianced any hunting for gears nor a tendency to hesitate when pulling away at junctions. Neither car has let us down at all.

Thanks guys.
I am thinking that the only way to go for my Swift 1600kg and 2 great danes is either the Seat Alhambra 170 DSG or Ford Galaxy 163 auto. Both weigh about the same and have huge boot space. Did not really want to go for MPV and would prefer an estate but most big estates, Mondeo, Superb are too light.
