Van manufacture year.

Hi. I’ve just received my insurance renewal. Only just noticed year of manufacture is noted as 2010. I’m aware that my CRIS no. digit 10 is an A which signifies 2010 manufacture.
The van was however bought Oct 2009.
I believe the caravan manufacture year runs from September till following September but feel a bit uneasy that my insurance states year of manufacture as 2010 when it was purchased new in 2009.
I’m sure many others must have the same issue and I’m probably being over cautious but just a little wary of insurance companies due to previous bad experience.
Thanks.

That’s what I thought. Just unsure of the small print as although it’s a 2010 model it was obviously manufactured 2009. Must be a common thing with insurance I guess. Thanks.

Also unsure as I have new for old policy and thought that was just valid for a van up to 10 years old so thought I may be borderline there. Guess I should just phone and check. Cheers anyway!

For insurance purposes it is 2010, as the value is based on the model year rather than the date it was built. Ours shows it was built in December 2017 from the electrical compliance certificate, but it is a 2018 model for valuation purposes.
Both insurers and dealers will use the model year when valuing a caravan. You do not say what you have, but the 2009 model would certainly be different to some extent, and could be almost entirely different.

Glad I read this as the fleetwood sonata concerto I just bought was purchased in 2008 as I have receipt. However it is a 2009 model which is what is on the handbook and all over the net. I already rang them and said it was 2009 and they changed it but wasn’t sure if I’d done the right thing as I didn’t get receipt till after.
