Van Royce

I've been offered a very nice 1993 Van Royce 450/2. I've looked all over it and can't find a weight plate, Lots of paperwork with the van, but no mention of it's weight. Can anyone help? We love the van and it ticks all requirement boxes, but weight is critical issue.

Have a look at this advert of one that is for sale

Internal Length: 4.50m / 17'9 "
External Length: 5.35m / 17'5 "
Width: 2.11m / 7'
Unladen Weight: 1018 kg
MTPLM: 1300 kg
 
Not sure if this will help as it refers to 1998 onwards, however for that model I doubt of weights would change drastically, but see here It also offers data on over makes of caravan.

It's a Renault Megane series 3 1.5 diesel. Kerb weight 1290 That, by my reckoning means about 1100
to be 85%. I've found a few to look at, but so liked the look of the Van Royce, which is apparently nearer
1250kg. As it's my first foray into caravanning, I'd feel safer limiting myself to 1100kg.
Several Lunars and Elddis vans on my shopping list. I've done lots of miles so far looking for the right deal.
I have found one dealer who's advert lists the weight of every 'van, shock horror!! Several private ads to follow up on too,
why do so few advertisers bother to list this?

I owned a vanroyce 450/2 not so long ago ... It was in immaculate condition too and all I can say is that it was the best van I have ever owned and it towed like a dream so mabe the weight issue you have can be negated by the fabulous tow . By the way I towed with a vectors, I wonder if you have been looking at my old van...where was it for sale?

They (there are two of them) are in Selby Caravans. I have, however, now bought a Abi Sprinter 400d, which ticks all the requirement boxes, especially being light.

I have just read that you have a Renault. Renault are almost unique in the way they state the maximum towable weight so I advise you to check carefully:-
Manufactures will provide three weights in their specifications
GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight GVW (fully loaded solo car)
MTW = Maximum Braked trailer weight (the heaviest trailer the car can legally tow)
GTW = Gross Train weight (Combined weight of car and trailer)
Most manufactures will give the GTW as the sum of GVW + MTW,
Under no circumstances must the outfits GTW exceed the manufactures limits.
Renault have been different:-
In many cases the quoted GTW for the car is less than the sum of the GVW + MTW,
In practical terms, this means that you cannot have both the car and the trailer fully loaded together, you have to trade off some load either from the car or caravan (or both) to keep the all up weight under the GTW limit.

Do check as this may restrict your choice of caravans further.
 
Having checked on various specialist towing advice sites, they all agreed with the kerb weight is as mentioned earlier. The 'van I bought is 1000kg MTPLM, which seems to be OK on all checks I've made.
