vauxhall astra van and toyota avensis

i am new to caravaning and before i start looking for a van i was wanted to know what sort i would be able to tow with either a vauxhall astra van 1.7 dti, or a toyota avensis 1.8. what is the maxium weight either of these cars will pull without causing any damage to them, the caravan will be left most of the year on a park so wont be pulling it all over that much.

thanks joel

My data say the maximum permissible towload of the Astra van 1.7dti is 1100kg and that of the Avensis 1.8 is 1300kg, but it would be wise to check in the handbook or with a dealer first.

i have just checked my v5 log book on my van and is says 1795kg gross so what does this mean, whats size van would i be able to pull is the 1100kg right?

thanks joel

Yes, the 1795kg gross has little bearing on what you can tow. The 1100kg limit would just about cover a relatively lightweight 2 or 4 berth caravan. You asked for a weblink to give you an overview what would be available. You could try: http://www.cuddles.abelgratis.net/vandata.htm It's not a complete database or always 100% accurate, but at least it is something to get started with.
