I never see anybody singing the praises of a Frontera. We have a Vauxhall Frontera Olympus LWB on a 52 plate and it is a brilliant tow car.It tows our Swift Conqueror like a dream. We have had it for two years and never had any problems. You can pick up really good Fronteras for half the price of a Landrover Diascovery but then again they don't have the same 'street cred'. Do any other caravanners love their Frontera?

Have to disagree, if you check through this and other forums you will find many praises for the towing abilities of the Fronterras, especilay the frontera (b) 2.2diesel. We had one for 6 years (had 2 others before that) and it was an excellent tow car. We changed it as we anted a larger van and the Frontera to a 100% match which I preffered not to tow with. The Fronterra is a fraction of the price of the Discovery but it is a different class of vehicle. I would compare the Fronrera to the Freelanders etc.

We had a Frontera sport for 3 years. It was a fantastic tow car but I had to reluctantly sell it because I was given a company car.

Around that time the frontera always came 2nd to the discovery in all the tests fo various magazines.I never really understood that because it was raved about but unfortunately the early bad press stuck until the end.A real shame.

But you still see them around, standing the test of time.

Hi Margaret,

I had a 1997 Frontera 2.5tds LWB and towed a Bailey Ranger 500/5

it was a superb tow car & i loved it, i was about to replace it for the later 2.2 version in 2004, when Mr Blair announced changes to the car tax bands, meaning higher prices for 4x4's,so i changed it for a car thinking i had beaten the Government!! only to find they done a complete U turn and left all pre-2001 cars and 4x4's alone.

We had a Vauxhall Frontera for several years and found it really good for towing but being petrol found it very heavy on the fuel.

As I only had occasion to use the 4WD twice in all the time of owning it when I took my first retirement which meant I would no longer have a Company Car in addition to the Frontera, we changed to our current Kia Sedona.

We had a Frontera 2.2 petrol LWB 1995 model for about 7 years and found it a fantastic towing vehicle I even had it converted to run on LPG only traded it in as we needed a bigger van and then car, I wish I still had it at the moment due to problems with current vehicle. As it was converted to run on LPG the MOT garage and DVLA changed the tax bracket to main fuel as LPG so it then also became cheap on Tax to which it now would be saving me fortune. It really was a fantastic towing vehicle and never a problem with it despite its bad press.
