Does anyone tow with one of these? If so, what weight do you tow and do you find the performance adequate? I'm thinking about getting one and can't decide whether to get the 100hp 5-speed version, as sold in the UK, or whether I wouldn't be a lot better off with the 125hp 6-speed (not available in the UK).

Even the 126hp version is somewhat underpowered but you may be able to get a performance chip to increase the power up to 200.

As it's the version not available in the UK it should tow continental 2.55m wide twin-axle vans up to 2500kg without any problem.

Roger ... are you confusing the Meriva with another model? I'm not sure about 2.55m 2,500kg vans.

Hi,

Based on the posting date and the nature of the question, I'm not sure it's the real Lutz posting the question or whether Lutz was thinking of a Meriva for each foot?

If it's real, I'll ask the UK Eriba community - there's a few people who have the Audi A2, Opel Meriva and similar small vehicles towing in the sub 1000kg class

Yes, it is the real Lutz. I would be towing a 1300kg caravan which is just under the manufacturer's towing limit of 1300kg whichever engine I choose and it works out at a 97% weight ratio. I know it wouldn't be an ideal combination but I was wondering whether it would be really that bad. In a list in another caravanning magazine, it's rated 3 star out of 5 for towing 1300kg so according to their result that makes it a fraction better than borderline.

A few years ago I was towing the same weight behind a 90hp 1.8 petrol Vectra without any problems so I would have thought the 100hp diesel could only be better.

Hi,

I don't think I'll be able to help too much, all of our Eriba friends are towing much lighter caravans than 1300kg

The people I know with the Meriva tow an Eriba Familia (I'm guessing 850kg when loaded - it has a MTPLM of 1000kg) - they participated at a recent EribaFest and didn't have any issues. So I'd guess that the 125bhp model would be better?
