vauxhall vectra

Hi all

just seen a caravan im interested in buying with a max weight of 1250kg. my tow car is a 2002 vauxhall vectra 1.8LS (new shape).would this be a good match?

Neil,

I used to have a vectra of that year but it was the 2.2 petrol. That coped ok with a 1300kg caravan and bikes on the roof of the car, although the clutch was never happy with hill starts when fully laden.

I don't know whether the 1.8 may be a little underpowered.

I think (although I can't swear by it) that the early new shape veccys have a 125bhp engine. My Zafira ha the same engine but producing 115bhp - it's fine pulling my 825kg van but show it a hill and it does soil itself somewhat (although it does get up the hills with a little coaxing).

I should imagine that the Veccy has a similar power to weight ratio and with your van being heavier it might struggle a bit but just be prepared to use lower gears (and higher revs) and you should be fine.

In hindsight I wish I'd got the 2.2 though.
