Vauxhall Zafira

Im a Childminder as well as a caravaner and need something to both towing and carry children. Im interested in purchasing a Vauxhall zafira 02 2.0 Turbo Diesel that already has a towbar fitted. we tow a Sprite Firebrand 4 berth. Would this make a good match. Thanks for any info.

I don't know the weight of the Sprite Firebrand but I rather suspect that the 2.0 diesel would not be suitable. Any other Zafira, preferably a 2.2 petrol or 2.0 turbo, and one could start talking about a good match but the 2.0 diesel is rather an exception with its very low max. permissible towload of only 1050kg.

Hi thanks for that. The Zafira Im looking at is a 2.0 Turbo Diesel and the maximum laden weight for the caravan is 1217 so we should be ok?

No, I was referring to the 2.0 turbo petrol.

If the maximum laden weight of the caravan is 1217kg, then the 2.0 diesel is definitely not for you.

As I said, if you would like a Zafira, then it would have to be a petrol, preferably a 2.2 or a 2.0 turbo. Otherwise, there are a number of 7-seater alternatives: the VW Touran (with the 7-seat option), the Hyundai Trajet, Toyota Verso or slightly larger offerings like the Alhambra/Sharan/Galaxy or the Kia Sedona.

You've been really helpful, we need to go back to the dealer tomorrow and let him now we're not interested in the Vauxhall. that was a close shave, you'd think that the 2.0 Turbo Diesel would have been the best choice. Guess not. Thanks again.

Have you heard of the Mitsubishi Delica 2.8 Turbo Diesel 4x4 or have you any information about its towing capabilities.

I dont like them, there ugly things, but my husband thinks there great.

I've never heard of a Mitsubishi Delica before but a little research shows that it was a model for the Japanese market only, so any found in the UK are grey imports. I'd be wary about buying such a car, especially if there was never a similar version for the European market. It may be difficult to get the necessary documentation for permissible towloads, not to mention a European type approved towbar for that model that you will need, not to mention the potential problem of availability of spares.

Mitsubishi UK are one of the few (if not the only one) that will help buyers with spares/service for imported cars. The delicia is based on the Shogun/pajero and so spares are readily available. Loads of owners clubs too.
