Vectra 1.8 Club ?

Having decided to return to caravaning after quite a few years we have found the van we both like - an ABI Yorshire Rose with a MILO of 985Kgs. Can't seem to find the max weight but guessing around 1080KGs ? Sadly my beloved 306 HDi isn't going to me man enough for this van as it's 85% is only 981KGs ! I've been offered a 2001 Vectra 1.8 Club (125PS) which appears to have an 85% figure of 1117Kgs so just about within spec.

Anyone have any ideas how this pair will tow? Having never driven a Vectra before am not sure how good the pulling power is going to be. The Vectra already has a tow bar and twin electrics so that's a bonus at least !

Your comments please.

I had an 02 reg Vectra 1.8 LS and it was gutless compared to my previous 1.8 LS Cavalier, both towing 1100kg. However, I now have the 1.9 diesel Vectra with the 150PS engine, and that tows like a dream towing 1200kg. Good on fuel economy as well, 55 mpg on a motorway run solo, and about 35 mpg towing.

The Z18XE (125PS) engine is competent enough in the Astra but the extra weight of the Vectra will make it a poor performer with a caravan on the back.

If your caravan's MIRO is 985kg then the MTPLM is likely to be 1150kg or more.

The 2.0 dti engine only chucks out 100bhp if my memory serves me right - the 2.0 petrol chucks out 140 but is obviously much heavier on juice.

My friends pull a 1200kg van with their X-Reg 2.0 Veccy and its fine - a little afraid of hills but not bad at all.

I used to tow a 1300kg caravan with a 1.8. If you're not afraid of revs, it would keep up with the traffic flow even on hills. There's a hilly stretch not far from here that I used to climb at 50mph in second gear, but the Vectra never complained.

The one I'm buying is the CD version -- 120BHP according to the book?
Hi, I've just joined this forum and was looking for info on (my) towcars which is also a Vectra.

It's a 2007 (57) plate 1.8.

I'm new to all this and looking to buy my first van but can't for the life of me find the info (kerbweight etc) of my particular car?

The vans I was looking at yesterday were (I think) advertised with just it's unladen weight and they were around 1100kg.

Does anyone have any idea, or could point me in the right direction to find out what my car will tow safely?

Thanks for any response
