vectra for a ranger gt60 540/6

Looking at upgrading the towcar so i can pull the above caravan.

The MTPLM of the caravan is 1350

WAs just wondering if this car would be suitable, and would appreciate your advice. i passed my test after 97. so m restricted to the <= 3500 kg weight.
If this car isnt suitable, could you please suggest a suitable tow car

Just had a look at the vectra, if it was me i would go for something a bit more powerfull and heavier. I would say this car works out at around a 90% + match to your van. And also its a petrol so you would use the gears a lot. Consider the 2.0ltr version but in the Deisel you will get a hell of a lot more torque at lower revs which would give you more pulling power and car will be heavier.

I have a 2005 vectra Diesel 1.9cc 150bhp sri and it is very good tow car, no complaints at all.
My caravan has a MTPLM of 1500, so as suggested you would be better off with a diesel version of the vectra.

Ive had a 2.2 Petrol Sri version and even that was quite sluggish. They are very big cars, even bigger than the old omega inside so they need a bit of power for decent performance. If you are only towing occasionaly then it may be ok but be prepared for careful route planning to avaoid steep hills (like me currently with a 1.6 petrol A3!)

I also had the 1.9 CDTI 150 Elite version which was a different car totally. Even in standard trim they are quite responsive although i found mine easily bogged down if you got caught belwo 1500rpm and the turbo hadnt spun up. Caught me out a few times with a few near misses truning into junctions in 2nd gear. I also fitted a plug and play tuning box which put the power up to 187bhp. That made a huge difference for the £300 it cost.

They can be prone to some costly failure so only buy network Q as the warranty is actually worth something. The desiels can suffer, as other modern deisels from flywheel failure, cracked inlet manifolds, sticking egr valves and the 120 version also suffers from diesel particle filter failure.

If i was in a position to buy a nearly new car now i would be straight to the mazda dealer for a mazda 6. Read the internet, unlike a lot of cars, there are not many complaints about them.

Ray your statement can be generally applied to all MODERN DIESEL CARS fitted with PDFs and driven mainly on short journeys. The Mazda is absolutely no different or more prone than any other car where DPF related incidents are concerned...
