hi every one hope you have all been enjoying our lovely weather.well here we go we used to have a renault espace 2.0 16v petrol towing our avondale dart 556 it was a good tower only thing was mileage was gettin a bit high and she was getting a bit less reliable.so we exchanged her for a vauxhall vectra 2.2i 16v direct ls model estate she is a 04reg and done around 40,000 she seems to drive very welland was very responsive when bringing her home.just wondering if any body has towed with this car and if they rate it as a good tower.the avondale is a 1300kg so should be ok thanks evey1

Used to tow a 1300kg Avondale Rialto 535 with a hatchback version of this car.

It was a good match only thing was the car didn't like hill starts with the loaded van on the back-the clutch never felt that strong.Having said that I never had to change the clutch.

What did play up however was the towbar electrics- you have the extra relays for the bulb failure circuits and that lot failed blowing fuses and rendering the towbar useless.

I was looking at an 07 Plate Vectra life 1.8 the other day in Widnes. It had 13000 on the clock and it was a minter.

It came from Enterprise so the small dealership selling must have some deal going with them.

It was for sale for less that 7000. if i was to get it could this car tow a caravan with a twin axle. I dont know how to work out the weight thing re the car and van.

do i need something more than a 108cc

never had a van before so i just dont know what to go for.

Any advice is welcome.

We towed a Vermont at 1230 kg with the less powerful Vectra 2.0 SRI 140 estate a few years back.

Power was not an issue so you should be OK and at around about a 90% ratio the car should pull well.

Wheelspin was a major problem on getting away though - any muddy incline or grass slope was a no no. Got rid of it for this reason as I could only get the van out of storage if it was dry!

Ours had traction control but I found this was inefectual when towing.

Hi,

I used to tow the same van with a 51 plate Vectra 1.8 SRi 130 hatchback, with no problems, except for hill starts in wet weather - didn't like them much.

I then changed to a 05 plate Vectra 1.9CDTi SRi 150 Hatchback which towed it a treat, so much so I sometimes forgot that I was towing.

Good car. Extended mirrors can bve a problem due to mirror shape. I fitted the Millenco ones with the two screw things on top. The Vauxhall ones are terrible price.
