A good idea is to find a site 'on the mainland' not too far away and visit Venice by train. Italian rail fares are peanuts compared with ours.

About 10 years ago we stayed at a site about 1/3 up the west side of Lake Garda. We drove to Desenzano where we parked the car free and took the train to Venice. Nearly two hours but a superb ride on the upper deck of a double decker carriage for 11€ each - a bit of Googling suggests the current price for the regional train is 13€, the express is about 28€ albeit takes 90 mins against 120 mins.

There is a site not far from Venice but at this time of year it will probably be packed.
We stayed at San Francesco site at the bottom end of Lake Garda and caught the train in.
Food prices in Venice have dropped to normal in the last few years, but if you want the loo be prepared to pay up to €1.5, the people in Venice know how to take the - - - -.
But what a beautiful place and we were lucky when we went the Italian tall ship was moored across the water from St Peters square, made a great backdrop for pics of gondolas.

hi dugiandcarol, if you do decide to stay on the southern coast of lake garda and travel to Venice, do give a thought to the organised tour buses that many if not all campsites advertise .they normally pick up at the campsite in an air con bus, you get a mini boat cruise so to speak from the outskirts of Venice into st marks square about 30 mins and great views ,then you are free to go site seeing on your own.normally in the late afternoon it is optional /extra another cruise into the lagoon .before the trip back to your campsite..ok at around 60 plus Euro's each its not the cheapest option but well worth it.. again if you decide to stay on the lake and go by train be aware that you should double check which platform the train is leaving from for your return journey,as it not unknown to be told one platform on your arrival and find its been changed at the last min..enjoy
