Vented or Heat Pump Tumble Dryers?

To us drying time is not a relevant benchmark. What would be interesting would be to see a comparative test of a conventional tumble dryer and a heat pump tumble dryer wrt the electric consumed. That’s our benchmark. Any WHICH members cast a light on it?

Seems they omit to mention the time taken to dry the same clothes in a vented and heat pump drier. The vented option is the more efficient in terms of time taken as it is a lot quicker. Heat pump seems to take forever!

That’s why I wondered if Which had done a comparison. The only valid output would be total energy used over the cycle with load and wetness being the same, and atmospheric conditions comparable. The heat pump will take longer, but having average lower peak energy load over its cycle benefits grid supplies. If you can find a comparison of vented re heat pump that would be interesting.

The heat pump uses less energy, but if you have two modest wash loads be prepared for the machine to be running most of the day. I am not aware of any time comparison tests?
 
In the past my reason for a tumble dryer was being a mum, foster mum and working full time; time taken to dry large amounts of clothing was the paramount consideration. The underwear alone was 42 pairs of socks and 42 sets of pants a week, never mind the school uniform. The load in the tumble dryer needed to be dry before the next load in the washing machine came out. The heat pump dryer didn’t even come close.

If you are a member , I am, you can read the cost comparisons etc. sadly Clive your link is heavily censored by Which?
What is very clear is everyone’s basic requirement for drying clothes is different. Not about cost but more how quickly you may need to dry 42 pairs of socks etc.
