I know that things change by the hour in these conditions, but Herself and I travelled from South Wales to Bournemouth via Yeovil and Dorchester last Thursday. We had a lovely trip, blue skies all the way, with lunch in the Rest and Welcome. We visited old friends in Bournemouth and had a pleasant journey home again on the A350. No signs of flooding, or indeed any adverse weather.I guess we were just a lot luckier than the folks living a bit south of where we left the M5!.
The old saying holds true; if you don't like the British weather, just wait ten minutes!

My comments were aimed at helping Dustydog who planned to drive from Cricklade across the Levels and onto North Devon. That being the case I estimated that his route may take him along the A361 which when you drop down from Street towards Taunton is smack in the flooded area. Your route clearly didnt transit that area, and the A350 has suffered nothing worse than local short term floods caused by water run off from fields.

Oh, I can't wait to venture out! I was thinking of trying to get out this week some time as the weather seems to be quietening down a bit (though more rain on the way Monday & Tuesday!). The trouble with having a long-haired dog, even if you manage to reach a site without hitting flood water/fallen trees etc, it's a nightmare trying to find places to walk the dog that don't involve squelching in sodden grass/thick mud or just puddles. It's bad enough taking her back indoors and drying her off. In a caravan the mud seems to infiltrate every corner, despite me putting thick covers over the benches and extra mats on the floor! Ok, maybe I shouldn't have a dog... That possibility doesn't bear contemplating. I guess I'll just have to sit tight 'til the ground dries out a bit.
Anyone wanting to venture through West Wiltshire shouldn't have any problems; I've been out and about quite a bit the last day or so, and only encountered a very small flood on a dip in the A3102 to Calne from Melksham.
Take care folks, if you are going to venture out, stay safe.

We use the Hotter Dog or Equifleeces for our two Springers which dry them and pick up the mud. Whilst the main routes in West Wilts are clear the BBC travel page still shows many minor roads as closed due to flood, slip or fallen trees. But fortunately the Avon does seem to be falling now. But our local warren and sett are flooded out which I have never seen after living here for neigh on 30 years.

I haven't seen either of the products you mentioned, Clive. I have got a nylon/fleece jacket for Echo but her legs and undercarriage still manage to get very wet and muddy. Oh joy.

Have a look here @ equafleece ....&...hotterdog

Cynth we only use the fleeces when they after their walks as being somewhat energetic the dogs would tear them to shreds. So they go on when going into the van or if being left in the car whilst wet on cooler days. You can get coats that cover tummy and legs as a lady near us has one on her Labradoodle but I have never seen her dog off the lead in the fields/woods, only around the streets. But I would think the coat could get ripped running through undergrowth. Like you we use mattress covers and throws on the van benches and loose fit washable Ikea carpets so the van doesn't suffer apart from getting dusty a lot quicker than if we didn't have the dogs. But heck that's why vacuums were invented!

Our two Springers are like magnets to mud and dirt. The original Wyoming carpets are in the loft and will stay there until the day we p x. I buy carpet end rolls for next to nothing. This year was foc c/o mil. The seats are double covered in very 21st century acceptable material compliments of Honeybourne market. And throw overs for me and SWMBO.

Thanks very much for all your input and suggestions, folks; all very helpful. Cor, the lengths we go to for our canine companions, aye?! But as it says on my sweat shirt - "Life without dogs? I don't think so!"

Fingers crossed now, that the weather will start improving a bit so that I can get out in the 'van!
