Volkswagen t5 20" wheels and towing

Hi there

Looking for advice.

I am purchasing a T5 VOLKSWAGEN
TRANSPORTER T32 TDI 140 SWB A (2012) with 20" wheels. With lowering springs added.

I have a bailey olympus 464 do you think I will have a problem towing as the weights might rub on the arches??

It's not easy to predict as presumably the car will be well loaded, and then there is the dynamic effect of the caravans nose load on the cars tow ball. the car will have a maximum rear axle load shown on its label plate, normally in the engine bay or a B pillar, but unless you know the loads being applied by the cars load and caravan nose load its not possible to say. Are the wheels non standard? Perhaps someone in a Dub Dub Forum has tried a similar set up.

Thanks good advice will go check those sites

The issue I think the OP is concerned about is the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre. In most instances, when a larger diameter wheel is fitted the tyre profile reduces so the overall wheel and tyre diameter remains the same (that way the speedo is still accurate as well)

As the 20" wheel and the springs could be modifications, it probably would be an idea for the OP to get some insurance quotes first?

Companies like Wildworx specialise in lowering springs and coil overs for T5 and T6 VWs which are TUV approved. Seeing the number of these vehicles that have suspension modifications insurance is avaiable. But the OPs concern is if the tyres might contact the wheel arches with a caravan in tow. Some conversions have very little wheel-arch clearance , others have more clearance. We don’t know what the OPs modification is. So the OP might get user experience and advice from companies such as Wildworx or Dubdub Forums.
