voltage converter

Hi new to caravaning wondered if anyone has any views on 12v-240v power converters as this seems on the face of it a better and cheaper option than buying 12/204v appliances

Hello Tom, Inverters are not the solution for everything. As a rule of thumb, whatever current (Amps) the 230Vac appliance uses will draw 20 times as much current from the battery through the inverter, so large power users sch as kettles and microwaves) are not a good idea. where ever possible try to use Gas for heating, and reserve the inverter for those items that cannot be powered from other sources. In general, portable televisions designed to run on 12Vdc or 230Vac will be more economical than using an inverter.
